This blog is for homework and instructions.
I would sometimes display work done by students in jpeg or slide. Please note that all work displayed is in the raw state, used to inspire or as springboards to class discussions. Please exercise care when commenting on this blog as it is a working blog for students.

To students

Please visit this blog two days before your lesson. I would post homework and instructions on Tuesday, after 8.00 pm. All homework completed to my satisfaction and brought on the day of the lesson will be given the homework star, which may give you an advantage. However, tardy homework will get not get the homework star at all.

This site is for Sec 1E3. However students from other classes are welcome to visit and follow this blog for updates and clarification of homework, assignments, weekly lessons and projects for 2010.

Apologies for other videos

YUP. All the videos rock, even Liqi's puzzling one. I need to apologise as I was not able to upload Ruidi's group's video as there is an error in both Part 1 and 2. I really think the setting was very well drawn and therefore the whole stage was very exquisite. Also I cannot upload Zhofirah's group video as I do not have the softcopy. :) Enjoy all the videos that you had done for exams in Term 2 everyone :)

TERM 3 : THE UNSEEN- PROSE AND POETRY

This term we are learning the basic components of Prose and Poetry. You will learn the following:
1. The difference between prose and poetry
2. The different forms of poetry
3. Imagery in poetry and how to evaluate their role in a text.

TERM 2 GROUP PROJECT
CREATING A NEWSPAPER

There are 3 different newspapers to create from 3 different points of view or perspectives.

THE WITCHERY NEWS: News from the perspective of a witch about Witches

THE HUNT: News from the perspective of a teenager about how to spot a witch ad general information that a human should know about witches

THE MOUSEKETEER DAILY: News from the perspective of a mouse on how to navigate around the human and witch world.

EVERY GROUP should also create a media file on a transformation of a witch/boy/mouse into something else. You can either act in the video or create puppets for your video. This should at most be a 2 to 3 minute video.

I will put up my video for Miss Trunchbull on Safari for MATILDA that I had created in 2009 and all the preparations that I had to do for a 2.06 minute video. This is just an example.

2. PERCEPTION/POINT OF VIEW
Perception means a point of view or a certain way to view something. This is an important concept to learn in the text.
There are various ways that the text had illustrated/shown this.
For eg:
Witches think children are horrible creatures because they smell of 'dog poo'.
Children consider witches to be evil because they change children into objects that can be destroyed or eaten. The children think their lives are in danger.
However, the witches think that they are right in trying to get rid of children and the children think that they are right in thinking that witches are dangerous. SO how you think about something depends on your role or experience, whether you are a child or a witch. Your perception of things or people would change according to your circumstances.

1. PEEL (Point, Elaboration, Evidence, Link)
Eg
Point: The second quality that makes witches dangerous are their big nose-holes, which could smell "dogs' droppings" from far away.
Elaboration:This is because their sharp nose are even stronger than a dog's, almost no child can escape from witches because (their noses can smell a child out as children smell of dog poo to witches)
Evidence: For example, although By had not bathed for a few days, the witch still managed to smell a bit of "stink-waves" from him.
Link: If we can find a way to get rid of "stink-waves" givn out by a child, all children will be safe from witches.
