This blog is for homework and instructions.
I would sometimes display work done by students in jpeg or slide. Please note that all work displayed is in the raw state, used to inspire or as springboards to class discussions. Please exercise care when commenting on this blog as it is a working blog for students.

To students

Please visit this blog two days before your lesson. I would post homework and instructions on Tuesday, after 8.00 pm. All homework completed to my satisfaction and brought on the day of the lesson will be given the homework star, which may give you an advantage. However, tardy homework will get not get the homework star at all.

This site is for Sec 1E3. However students from other classes are welcome to visit and follow this blog for updates and clarification of homework, assignments, weekly lessons and projects for 2010.

Youth Day Poetry Present :)

The Crocodile by Roald Dahl

For Youth Day, I have for you a short poem by Roald Dahl, the same writer who had written The Witches, animated by YourFriendInABox. Its a good scary poem for all children:) I want you to listen to the rhyme and rhythm. Notice that the heavy beats contribute to the regular, if scary, rhythm.

You might like to consider doing something like this later in the year too :)

The Crocodile

"No animal is half as vile
As Crocky–Wock, the crocodile.
On Saturdays he likes to crunch
Six juicy children for his lunch
And he especially enjoys
Just three of each, three girls, three boys.
He smears the boys (to make them hot)
With mustard from the mustard pot.
But mustard doesn't go with girls,
It tastes all wrong with plaits and curls.
With them, what goes extremely well
Is butterscotch and caramel.
It's such a super marvelous treat
When boys are hot and girls are sweet.
At least that's Crocky's point of view
He ought to know. He's had a few.
That's all for now. It's time for bed.
Lie down and rest your sleepy head.
Ssh. Listen. What is that I hear,
Galumphing softly up the stair?

Go lock the door and fetch my gun!
Go on child, hurry! Quickly run!
No stop! Stand back! He's coming in!
Oh, look, that greasy greenish skin!
The shining teeth, the greedy smile!
It's Crocky–Wock, the Crocodile!"

JUST ENJOY THIS VIDEO:)

We are learning Poetry in Term 3

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,

And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow

We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Homework Task for 1E3

This term we are learning poetry. The video that you had just watched in the above post is an animated version of the Shel Silverstein poem "Where the sidewalk ends." It is a mysterious poem, full of hope and good things.

You can watch the video, which is helpful and also read the poem.

Homework Task 1.
1. What do you think is the THEME of the poem and why?
2. What is the poet saying in the 1st stanza of the poem?
[A stanza is like a paragraph. So this poem has 3 stanzas]
3. What is the poet saying in the 2nd stanza of the poem?
4. Are the 2 stanzas different? if so why?

Homework Task 2
Illustrate/Draw the poem in a piece of white paper or drawing block A4 size.

Complete Homework Task 1 and 2 on the same piece of white paper or drawing block.

Homework Task 3
NB: Remember you also have the simile homework to do in your Literature Note book.

Good Luck.

Apologies for other videos

YUP. All the videos rock, even Liqi's puzzling one. I need to apologise as I was not able to upload Ruidi's group's video as there is an error in both Part 1 and 2. I really think the setting was very well drawn and therefore the whole stage was very exquisite. Also I cannot upload Zhofirah's group video as I do not have the softcopy. :) Enjoy all the videos that you had done for exams in Term 2 everyone :)

Clyde and Group

This video is very attractive. the colours are bright and the puppets are very defined. All these enhance the presentation and reinforces the key ideas. However, it is very short and abrupt and I cannnot see the whole of the witch! That is a pity.

LiQi and Group

Liqi's video is rather puzzling for me. The background and props confuse the audience. The graphics and animation seem unrelated to the task. I also do not understand why the girl is speaking Chinese in the video. Marks: 15/25

Ady and Group

This video displays some originality and the group is somewhat able to link the ideas together. However, the props are not well utilized and the audio is inconsistent. the background is quite distracting. I did enjoy the fact that Ultraman was there though. Marks 16/25

ChenChao and group

Add Image
The graphics does assist the audience in the understanding of the key ideas. However, the background is not very suitable for the task. The audio although clear, only partially assist in communicating the main idea. The props are not fully used to put across the ideas. Marks: 18/25

Bennett and Group

This displays a great deal of originality and all ideas are linked cohesively. It is clear and the narrative is quite humourous. The graphics reinforce the key points. They could do better for the colour-scheme though. Marks: 23/25

Clara and group

Video: This is an excellent one = 20/25
It has an original script, and the props are quite well done. The audios is clear and the ideas are communicated well. The graphics and animation assist the audience in understanding the flow of the content. 20/25
