Week 6. Its CA Week!!

We will use 2 periods for CA - Writing out the 'rrreeall recipe' and 1 period to do corrections. Bring coloured pencils if you want to illustrate your recipe.

1. For corrections we will do the following:

1. Bring your black file.

2. Review the diary entry. Some of you did not write your diary using the past tense or sequence your ideas properly. A few of you did not complete the diary entry. So you would have to re-do this and hand in your work again for a mark.

3. Review the letter to grandmama and correct tenses or spelling mistakes.

2. For CA- Writing the recipe (Preparation Work)

1. You can refer to you homework for Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse Maker where you had re-written the text in your book into the form of a standard recipe, your Witches text as well as your CA assignment sheet (in green)

2. You need to create your own name for your recipe and also have your own pictures or drawings for it. (If you do not want to draw or illustrate, its also possible)

3. Think about your recipe carefully and use your own /'made-up' words to include in the recipe. these words can be written in the green paper for reference.

Think about the following ideas - Ingredients and measurement (nouns) , method (verbs and sequencing), utensils (nouns), serving size (or how many persons), preparation time.

Bring all your preparation work to class. You have 2 periods (1 hour) for your CA. You can only write out your recipe in class. If you do this at home, you will get nothing and I will take it away.

HOMEVORK!

Homework for Week 4: Writing a Diary.
My 1st encounter with a witch. OH DEAR!

To complete this homework you should have read chapters 1 to 5. Completed homework that is well done may get the homework star. The homework star is worth 5 marks and would go towards your CA assignment. However only excellent and tidy work would be given these points.

A diary is a personal piece of writing and is usually done for yourself. Therefore you have to include your feelings and emotions when writing one. It is also a short description of events and things that happened to you and to the people around you.

Instructions:
1. Read Chapter 4 .
2. List out (in point form) the events that happened to the boy when he saw the witch. Also think about what he felt and thought duirng the meeting and after the witch left on foolscap paper.
3. If you can, put all the information in a mind-map or a diagram. If not, just bring the information to class.

We will write a diary using this information in class. DO NOT write the diary at home.

Please make sure you revise or read chapters 1 o 6 so that you can answer a short quiz at the end of the lesson. Marks for the quiz may be counted as part of the 1st CA.

Homework for 18 January 2010

HOMEWORK for Monday, 18 Jan 2010

Answer this question in your notebook as you read your text:

What is the most dangerous thing about witches and why?

As I just saw you this Monday, on the 11th, I am NOT giving any other homework for your class except this one. If you have yet to complete it, I have the following suggestions that may help you.

USE the PEEL format when writing.

P - Make a Point

For example:

Witches are always dangerous but the most dangerous thing about witches is that they look like an ordinary human female.
(This is from the book but you have decided to CHOOSE this one as YOUR point)

E- Elaboration or the reason for your Point.

This is because if no child can spot a witch from an ordinary woman, he or she may not be able to protect herself or himself. (This is YOUR reason)

E - Example to support your Point.

For example, the boy's grandmother told him about a girl called Brigit Svenson, who started growing feathers all over her body. She turned into a chicken within a month. The grandmother also said that these strange things happened when each child spoke with a tall lady in white gloves. (This eg is from your textbook)

L - Link your example to your Point

Therefore that is why I said not being able to spot a real witch is dangerous as there are many women who are tall and have white gloves. If we can spot a witch easily, this incident may not happen.

The homework is easy right? Try one for yousrelf and I would see you on Monday to help you out. :)

PS:
BTW: I am verrrey glad that I alrreeady have a follover to this blog. This is a good vitch and deserrve many good things. I vill NOT be frying her in my class.

Homework for Monday 11 Jan 2010

IS THIS YOU?
If you were a witch, how would you be different?

These are the portraits that your friends and fellow witches and wizards had drawn of you. BUT we all know that you do NOT really look like this. Be sure to complete homework/WS 1 and read chapter 3 to know what a real witch looks like. As time goes by and as you read more and more chapters, you would have to make changes to this picture.

However in order to be able to discuss the text, you should read chapters 1 to 5 by THIS Monday as from next week, your Lit classes will be on Monday :)

HOMEWORK for Monday, 11 Jan 2010

Answer this question in your notebook as you read your text:

What is the most dangerous thing about witches and why?

Our 1st 1E3 Literature Lesson

Congratulations for sitting through and surviving the 1st Literature Lesson of 1020.

I am very pleased to have met all of you witches and wizards from Singapore :) Since this is a public blog, I am not able to rrreeveal myself and not even tell you my secret witch name (in case there are other humans around). But I vont...err want to tell you that your secret witch names are safe and should only be told to witches or wizards in the class.

In case you missed some of the things that I had wanted you to do, then read the following carefully.

1. You had to sit with your partner-witch or wizard and then had drawn their portrait on a piece of blank paper. (However 3 witches did not do this. Oh dear...)
2. You had to give your witch-partner a secret witch name. (However some of you did not do this. Oh dear)
3. You were also given WS 1 for homework and should complete the worksheet before the next Literature class. Make sure you do this, all witches and wizards. If not you will be Frizzled Like a Fritter when I see you next.
